    I like FL Studio Producer Edition for doing beats. You can try the demo here: http://demo.flstudio.com

    Get some nice (free) electronic drum sounds here;

    In case you end up liking FL Studio and you want to buy a license (so you can re-open your projects) you can buy it with 10% discount with my promo link: https://support.image-line.com/jshop/shop.php?offer=Default&promo=BACJBAA468

    If you want something free you can check these:

    I don’t think they are as good as FL Studio but they might be good enough for what you need.

    Like the other person said, other options are available from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_workstation

    Good luck!

    If you’re brand new to making beats, you need to try a program that’s free or cheap just so you can learn the ropes because they can be really complex.

    If you’re a WINDOWS user, I recommend FL Studio or a program called Sonic Producer. These are both good if you’re just looking to start out. FL Studio is a little more complex than Sonic Producer, but Sonic Producer is dead simple and I’ve heard people make some really good beats on it.

    If you’re a MAC user, you need to start out with Garageband. This program is free and comes with every Apple computer sold. Garageband is the same program that T-Pain used when he started making his own beats and look at where he is now.

    Once you get a little more experience, you may want to move up to one of the more professional programs. My personal recommendation is Logic Studio if you’re a MAC user. For a WINDOWS user I would probably go with a program called Reason.

    There’s many other types of software to choose from, ex. Cubase, Sonar, Ableton Live, but what it all boils down to is your own personal preference.
